Title: Google Pixel 4a with Snapdragon 730 surfaces on Geekbench, slightly trails behind the Xiaomi Mi 9T
Post by: Redaktion on May 05, 2020, 08:25:19
The upcoming Google Pixel 4a has surfaced on Geekbench confirming some of its specs such as the Snapdragon 730 and 6 GB RAM. While the Pixel 4a stands to offer an excellent camera and stock Android 10 experience, it has to compete with similarly specc'ed phones such as the Xiaomi Mi 9T that offer more raw performance and better value for money.

Still under the single core performance of the aging iPhone 7 from 2016 huh

Even the iPhone 6S from 2015 is still competitive with that single core score.

I find it impressive because Apple:
Dual sourced the A9 from TSMC 16nm and Samsung 14nm.
This was the last design without "little" cores - it was all big cores.
Predated the Cortex-A76 by 3 years, and the Snapdragon 730 by 4 years.
This is being compared to an Samsung 8nm chip in terms of performance.
The Cortex A77 (successor to the A76 uArch) seems to be having a much slower uptake from SoC vendors, implying unfavorable characteristics, so we are being stuck with the A76 for longer than normal, now.

Apple has such a huge lead in terms of single core performance. Even the A10 is competitive with the fastest Snapdragon cpu in terms of single core. I only wish that IOS was as flexible as Android. Apple has the hardware but Google has the software.
