Title: Sparks fly as NZXT H1 PCIe riser cable screw fire hazard and insufficient workaround solution are exposed
Post by: Redaktion on February 01, 2021, 12:11:02
The NZXT H1 case has come under very close scrutiny from the team at Gamers Nexus in two recent videos. It appears a fault with the PCIe riser involving conductive metal screws, an unplated PCB through hole, and an exposed 12 V plane has caused some units to catch on fire. NZXT has issued a workaround with nylon screws, but this still leaves faulty boards in place.

That's a shitty design. The fix is also terrible. Plastic screws?

NZXT uses cheapest riser cable they could source.
Acts like a few fires that could have caused loss of life, not a big deal.
Then offers cheapest possible fix (months later), that does not fix the inherint flaw with riser.
Finally, they continue to clown post on twitter.

Future prediction, they will blame either pandemic, riser supplier, or journalists just trying to get clicks.

It's nice to see this storey being picked up by notebookcheck, and by my favourite writer, straight to the point and credit given to Gamers Nexus for their hard work. This is a very serious issue, not only is the issue extremely dangerous, but this article highlights the companies clear "profit over human life" approach to the solution.

Cheap is, as cheap does. I am not too familiar with NZXT, but now I'm going to remember it well. Cheapness and spin, and more cheapness. Reckless regard for people and property.
