Title: Samsung will make 200MP the new normal for smartphone cameras in 2021: new leak
Post by: Redaktion on January 11, 2021, 01:00:42
108MP is the highest resolution available to mobile devices at the moment, featuring most recently in the freshly-launched Xiaomi Mi 11. However, the respected leaker Ice Universe asserts that Samsung has new 200MP ISOCELL-line sensors ready to go "soon". Therefore, OEMs may aim to include this tech in their flagships in the course of 2021.

>It is projected to be exactly 1 inch in size
Please stop spreading misleading ideas. Type 1" sensors do not have a "1 inch" diagonal. All sensor formats denoted as "Type x"" have about 2/3 the diagonal as their name would suggest. I've said this more than once before and it's not just me saying this here on this site.
Also, I don't believe a 0.7μm pixel pitch down from 0.8μm is an upgrade. It's pretty apparently a downgrade or a sidegrade at most, too many individual photosites also complicates stacking, decreasing reliability of many algorithms and/or otherwise increasing the processor load in turn the power consumption and processing time. 250MP is plainly confusing even in a Nonacell layout, and we've seen nothing good come out of Nonacell, Tetracell is a relatively balanced design.
