Stable base. The Acer CB3-111 is one of the cheapest laptops available and it does a good job of being clean, stable and efficient within 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It runs ChromeOS and might be suitable for you. Read on for more details, performance and comparison.

Chippy your thoughts offer Great value.
Thanks for the great review. Would you be able to post a photo of the whole motherboard/internals?
Thanks for this review. I bought one of these Chromebooks and I am pleased with it. My device does not have the space bar problem you mentioned. Also, I have found that other people are not aware of just how much work a Chromebook can do offline.
Can you download programs like Quickbook? Just want to know before buying it..thanks
Love your reviews, they are thorough and informative. But how the C720 can have a lower score to the 11 is a bit odd, as the C720, in spite of it being an older model, still kicks the 11's butt in all but silence, heat and a little more battery. Performance should be weighted heavily, as the whole package is already a box of compromises, and the C720 got the balance about right.
Can the 16 Gb ssd be upgraded as with the Acer c720 or is the eMMC what one is stuck with? Also, is the RAM soldered into the board like the c720 or can that be upgraded?
LOL. one of the online stores in the Philippines, Lazada, priced this as USD570 as regular price with a discounted price of USD235.
This is a great review! Thank you!
Can you recommend the best inexpensive bluetooth mouse options to use with this Chromebook? I just got one yesterday, thinking my Microsoft bluetooth 5000 mouse would work with it, but it did not. Even a call to Google tech support couldn't resolve it, it simply didn't find/recognize that mouse, perhaps due to it's being an older one. I'd like to get a mouse that doesn't have a dongle in the USB port, so I can keep it free for other uses. Thanks!
Is is possible to upgrade the SSD?
It's mentioned that it's an emmc solution - does that mean i can't drop in an m.2 ssd?
Wow, you are really doing a great job ! Your review is informative, precise, complete and easy to read for non expert like me. Thank you so much
Very informative. Well constructed review. Helped me a lot.
Thanks. Keep on going !
What a wonderfully comprehensive review! After learning the top 9 in the Chrome Book list, I was first drawn to the Toshiba until I read too many complaints about its keyboard, and I really didn't need/want a 13"; was looking for a 10 or 11-inch. After reading several reviews on this Acer and then finding this article, I found this to be my confirmation for "the way to go," for what I want and could pay! I have one ordered and due to arrive on Monday, June 7, with a great Square Trade service contract extension, and still all under $200. Thank you for your very thorough review! (BTW: My very first PC was an ACER that I couldn't wear out; finally donated to a ministry that gave to elder to learn how to email!!)
I ran the local storage test from the article on mine, which I bought a few days ago. My results:
localStorage read/write: 26,060 +-3% Ops/Sec
sessionStorage read/write: 25,538 +-5.15% Ops/Sec
Also, mine starts up in literally 3 seconds and takes as long to shut down. Either something changed on these since you last did this check or something's off on yours.
Fast for 2 gigs RAM. But Google Docs is ONE CHAOTIC USER-UNFRIENDLY MESS!! Even the Geek Squad couldn't figure out how to navigate this nightmare. Windows is 10 times easier to use than this pain!! So if you need to write documents or load pics from a flash, or pics downloaded from the internet to a flash (which i couldn't figure out how to do) good luck! I'm not to fond of the wifi connection boxes that pop up also. Again, Windows has that figured out at least half way decent.
It's only $150, so there isn't much to complain about. The one thing I find very annoying is the little mouse pad (not sure what to call it). It's very loud and requires you to press it much harder than my Macbook. I think this is a perfect computer for a teenager that needs one for school or something.
If you need more Acer ChromeBook Full review: you can see this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBTs8iR93Oc and decide to buy it !
I think this is a great product for first time users. I just bought two for my niece 12 and nephew 9 for Christmas. The only thing I have issue with is the OS. It will not properly run Minecraft (big letdown for the PC edition they wanted) and it wont properly run Skype. I wish I had done more research before buying a non Windows product. However, as I said for first time users this will suffice. Just know this is NOT a laptop this is a Chromebook. Do your research (unlike me who just got overly excited bought online and now Christmas night a bit disappointed) and know there are ways around some of these issues as long as you know your way around technology. We don't all know what HTML means. Any answer to that would be great. Merry Christmas maybe next year they will get a real laptop.
Hi I just want to know if this is only a Wifi device? Trying to connect with mobile network but no success. Can't seem to find where to enable mobile data?
after reading all the high tech mumbo jumbo you think the product would operate a lot better than it does may be it's only my unit . l have found my screen constantly freezes and the key board sucks . this unit is not in the same level as the asus
I've owned one of these for 9 months now, and I'm extremely pleased with it. It's particularly good with Ubuntu installed. (CNET has instructions for installing Ubunto on a Chromebook.) The result is inexpensive and stable, as the review mentioned. Using Ubuntu, I was able to fix two minor problems with ChromeOS - the annoying Canadian multilingual keyboard, and relatively drab screen display. Anyway, I can run Google Chrome with any extension quite normally. Such extensions include Gmail, Evernote, Dropbox, ... Even LibreOffice (an open-source Microsoft Office clone) works fine. This Chromebook is an impressive little machine.

You mentioned yourself that you have done no research, and you really should have. This
is a laptop*, and it's not a powerful one. It runs chrome os, which doesn't stop it being a laptop. If you want to run Minecraft PC edition on them, you'll need a considerably more expensive device that runs Windows. With the recent addition of Android app support to chromebooks, you will be able to run the skype app fine on them.

Can we use this Chromebook in a projector instead of a laptop?
Senior adult doing social media stuff, google apps and need to logon to all the servers in the village and around town. Can I WiFi using my smartphone when driving across country, Google maps, you know :)
I have had this Acer Chromebook probably about 4 years and really like it. I take it when on road and will probably take it overseas instead of my HP 15" laptop. It's easy to use, though think I would have liked the keys a mm higher.
The biggest problem I have is opening documents which I thought was easy to do. If I download, and these are not large, I cannot seem to open. I think this is a problem with Chromebooks as my friend has a larger version and seems to have the same problem.
It is good value for the money spent and I am happy overall...
