A start-up called Brandeis has put its inaugural smartphone, the Prometheus, up for crowdfunding. It purports to offer a Snapdragon 865 SoC, 16GB of RAM, a uniquely-shaped QHD OLED screen and a 108MP main camera for as little as US$499. But is it just too good to be true?

From what I can see, this originally appeared with Snapdragon 845 so it has been in the works for around two years and the only thing that seems to develop is changing specs to suit the time and attract more money. Steer well clear.

If digital audio players can't find access to chipset hardware. Fighting to get even 1000 for a run of their devices.... Look up the Ibasso 220 Max and the HiBy R8 production numbers.

I highly doubt an upstart has any chance to even buy Snapdragon 865 to begin with; they are all claimed already and being fought for.
