Title: 5 things to do with that old laptop after upgrading to an M3 MacBook Pro
Post by: Redaktion on November 14, 2023, 14:30:47
If you've upgraded to the new M3 MacBook Pro or a Lenovo X1 Carbon, take a look at some of the options for repurposing your old hardware instead of selling, recycling or sending to landfill. Repurposing old hardware can be a rewarding adventure that forms a core part of your home network.

Well, you can always trade-in Apple devices or sell them on second hand market.

If that old laptop happens to be a MacBook your choices for operating system may be more limited. I just converted a 2015 MacBook Air to Linux and the only operating system I could get working was based on arch Linux. Eventually endeavor OS proved to be the one that would not only install and boot but also recognize the Wi-Fi adapter.

Apple has the best policy of hassle free trade-in. It's a good thing even if the trade-in price is low.

No other company offer this service for computers.

Make a bittorrent box

//// A bunch of CIA and NSA agents breaks into Devey's house, throwing smoke grenades around and busting all the doors they can find, shouting PIRACY IS A CRIME ////

Gosh, it is rather sad really that in 2023 "minimum" hardware requirements are 64bit CPU and 4GB of RAM. (ether or both of which kills off most older and/or low end PC's)

Almost comical that the article has nothing to do with the title - IE: None of the proposed uses work with Apple hardware.

Speaking of Apple hardware - what exactly is wrong with just continuing to use it?

This is being written on a 2013 MBP running 10.13.6!!

Absolutely nothing wrong, obviously. As long as it suits your needs and requirement then why change? Fits all PCs, not just Macs.
