Samsung has announced its first-ever 3 nm SoC for smartphones has taped out. It leveraged Synopsys' software suite, resulting in more power efficiency and higher clocks. The chip in question is likely the Exynos 2500, which will power the Galaxy S25 series next year.

If Nvidia were honest they shouldn't brag about this feature. These models are so small that they are not attractive for anyone who knows their CPU options. You can run much larger and therefore much more knowledgeable models, like Mixtral 8x7b, using CPUs and 4-bit quantization, as long as you have 32GB memory. Nvidia has been so stingy on VRAM for quite a while now, and it is now backfiring.

Quote from: NikoB on March 11, 2024, 13:53:38I'm not at all impressed with the model.

16" with a non-working, cut-off keyboard, without a numpad? Straight into the trash. A lot of space on the left and right is wasted.

Why was it necessary to make the second TB4 at an angle? What kind of stupidity is this?! Draw it from the left symmetrically to the right! It's so convenient to power plug (TB4 port) for both right-handers and left-handers! And this is exactly how Intel itself recommends TB ports be laid out - symmetrically on the left and right.

Why was the audio port placed at an angle towards the back (which the author didn't even mention in the photo of the sides)? Why, again, with so much space on the left and right, not output two 4-pin sockets symmetrically on the left and right? And it would also be nice to bring out optical SPDIF for a "premium" laptop, for complete galvanic isolation of the external DAC/Amplifiers from the laptop's power circuits...

Screen - again holes in the subpixel structure, fake 480Hz PWM (I don't believe that with this value, the dynamic range of the panel was not affected, in terms of black level - the author does not write it, but it definitely does not correspond to the maximum allowable according to the HDR10 standard - 0.0005 nits) . Well, finally, buy a calibrator with such black level sensitivity - 0.0001 nits!

It is also clear that again the shameful AMOLED panel could not pass the standard calibration with dE < 2. You can immediately forget about working with color on it.

Otherwise, a rather boring laptop, considering that it could have been not a stupid Intel processor, but a 7840/7940HS at the same 40W, which would have easily won over MeteorLake, despite the fact that they are a year older. Well, that is. this model could have been released exactly a year ago with exactly the same performance and capabilities on the AMD platform.

The memory has monstrous latency, but at least its efficiency is close to 80%. At least something...

The only good thing is that HP, unlike other redneck manufacturers, has finally started installing webcams with normal resolution for the second year already (but in video recordings they again do not correspond, which is upsetting - why not 4k@60fps? After all, processors have been easily encoding this in hardware for a long time flow...), although again without autofocus, because the authors didn't mention it, which means it doesn't exist.

And again, not a word - you can install a Double-Sided SSD in this model, since the absence of such an option reduces the choice of buyers by an order of magnitude. The list of 2TB+ models in Single-Sided is actually limited to Samsung models and very rare models from Hynix with a dram buffer. And if we take into account energy efficiency...

The target audience with such a keyboard is again very limited. But apparently HP marketers know what they are doing. The flag is in their hands...

This is a much much better design than the ones with numpads, both aesthetically and functionally. Would never but a laptop with a numpad. Touchpads are off center and writing position is awkward. Laptops with numbads remind me of those early 2000 plastic monsters and usually leave no room for proper speakers. Glad they chose this design.

Last post by Redaktion - Today at 06:42:34
Garmin recently rolled out a new version of the Connect app, which was intended to offer a better overview and more configuration options, but has not been met with enthusiasm by all users. Unofficially, the old version of the software can still be used, but it is unclear for how long.
