2060 also does not support 4k@60Hz 30 bit 4:4:4 via HDMI, because there is 2.0b
All DP ports since 2010 version 1.2 support this mode, but only 1.4+ support HDR metadata.

You need to buy laptops only with full HDMI 2.1 FRL6, this must be clearly indicated in the datasheet.

Starting with Zen5 Strix Halo (but not simple Strix), AMD igpus will finally receive support for 8k monitors with DP2.0+/UHBR20. And just for this, AMD was finally forced to immediately introduce a 256-bit memory controller (17 years later!) with a declared bandwidth of up to 270GB/s (compare with the shameful 60-70 now). Of course I don't believe in 270, because... Apple also deceived everyone - it promised 512-bit memory controllers with 400GB/s, but in practice it turned out to be a shameful 120-130GB/s, which is more than 3 times lower, i.e. Controller efficiency is less than 30%. It's a shame. AMD has traditionally done poorly in terms of efficiency in laptop SoCs, compared to Intel, but lately things have not been very good for Intel in this regard either.

This is correct (although in reality there is support for 422 on both, but not 444 for 2.0b standart). To connect a monitor at 4k@60Hz 444 30 bit with HDR it must be connected to either HDMI 2.1 with FRL2+(18Gbps) mode or for DP1.4+ (DP1.2+ without HDR metadata)

Hello NikoB, If the laptop only has 2.0b, wouldn't that make it equivalent to my desktop with an RTX 2060? If I can run 60Hz with that, why can't I run it on the laptop? I tried changing the resolution in control panel and only have access to YCbCr420 even when I check "use Nvidia color settings". Another site said that might be the problem.

For example, Lenovo in many series falsely claims that the HDMI 2.1 port supports 8k monitors. But marketers meanly keep silent about the fact that in lossless mode, even full 2.1 does not support 8k resolution even at 24bit/60Hz.

Only DP2.0+/UHBR20 supports 8k monitors. But not a single laptop or PC has these ports. Except for rare workstations with AMD professional W7xxx+ series, where for the first time in the world there is actually an output with UHBR20. To the shame of Intel/NVidia/AMD, not a single gaming card or igpu supports DP2.0/UHBR20, although the standard itself was published back in 2019...

Good evening Mars!

What is not so, as all earthlings know, is that the fraudulent HDMI consortium allowed the 2.1 nameplate to be placed on any port, including 2.0b (and even 1.4b).

And 2.0b does not support 4k@60Hz 30 bit 4:4:4. You bought a laptop where Dell marketers falsely wrote that it was 2.1, but in reality it was released as 2.0b, because... They didn't mention that it doesn't support FRL6 mode (48Gbps).

When you buy a laptop with HDMI 2.1, ask the seller or manufacturer to provide accurate data on the port - whether it supports FRL6. Only with FRL6 HDMI 2.1 is full.

Likewise with DP2.0+ - if you need real support for 8k monitors, the port must support UHBR20 mode.

I recently bought a 5530 with an RTX 4060. It will not run 3840x2160 HDR 60Hz thru the HDMI 2.1 port. I turned off the Intel UHD GPU in the bios. Despite that, this resolution runs thru the USB-C DP 1.4 port via the Intel GPU. My desktop, 8930 Dell, with the RTX 2060 will also do it. My Sony STR-DH790 AVR, Vizio M658-1 and cables should be fine, not the problem. The last Tech support I received from a supervisor blamed my Vizio. What is wrong with HDMI 2.1?
