Sony has stepped up its smartphone game with the launch of the Xperia 1 that features a stunning 21:9 4K HDR OLED display. However, it looks like it is going to take this up to a whole new level with its sequel by upgrading it to a crazy 5K resolution.

Why not make it 30:10 and 8k? Cause we really need 8k on a phone...
Sony has gone on a wrong path with their latest phones. They were quite ok in the era of Z1-Z5, but then they lost their focus and started pumping out bad quality phones. I am sorry for them cause they try to innovate, but you simply don't need 4k on a 6 inch display.
It's hard enough to get 17 inch gaming laptop with 4k display, and yet they want you to believe that you need 5k on a smartphone?
How many apps will be able to take advantage of that resolution, I bet this phone will run most of its software on 1080p anyway.
Such pointless device.
8K is the proposed TV broadcast NHK was hoping to have achieved by now.
Bringing consumers to comprehend higher resolutions has been challenging with just half that standard.
It seems that in order to reach that goal, the mobile technology is the best platform to gage how humans behave towards such standards.
Always welcome to see pictures or focus while taking shots. How I wish that size or resolution were in full size alpha cameras.
Meanwhile those who try to sell FHD screens will not agree to it, it's expected, apple as well.
Which kind of apps can be used on that screen and which kind of picture and/or video maybe displayed on it?! If Sony just wants to show that they can it's OK, but if they wants people to buy its phone, then it has to offer exclusive apps and equipment for customers when they buy that phone! Is if ridiculous enough?!
