With the Pavilion 14-ce3040ng, HP is selling a €1,000 multimedia laptop based on Intel's brand-new Ice Lake architecture. As it turned out in our test, the 14-incher has several unnecessary quirks.

You should have compared it to MSI Modern 14 A10RB, which comes with i5/i7 14nm 10th gen + MX250 + 16GB RAM; has decent screen, better thermals and weights only 1.19 kg; all while priced just under $900. That is a real competitor, not the ones you've choosen here.
Also, Acer Swift 3 with Ice Lake 1065G7 + MX250 is also available and weights 1.19 kg too, priced slightly above this Pavilion.
Why havent the I/O ports on this laptop been mentioned in the review? Not even in photos?
Anyway, these kind of Ice Lake devices with low-end dedicated GPUs are so pointless...
Integrated Iris graphics alone are quite capable on the low end, and the money saved by taking out MX250 could've been used to add Thunderbolt 3 support, allowing the use of external GPUs.
Oh, well... guess they have to sell something "new" next year.
