MediaTek has overtaken Qualcomm to become the world's largest smartphone chipset vendor in terms of market share for the third quarter of 2020 (Q3 2020). MediaTek has been busy this year with its Dimensity series appearing in numerous budget and midrange smartphones. Qualcomm has remained strong in the 5G and high-end segments though.

They can thank Trump for forcing Chinese OEMs to diversify away from American tech. It's only downhill from here for Qualcomm.

lol, MTK has always been cheaper but they only recently caught up in performance.
American companies are also diversifying away from Chinese manufacturing.
In an attempt to match Qualcomm's performance, MediaTek overclocks their processors. This results in system instability, excess battery drain and shortens the life of MediaTek processors. Apple and Qualcomm remain far ahead of the others.
Mediatek has been done pretty amazing with its chipsets this year especially with the new 5G enabled Dimensity chips

Um no. They both use stock cores on stable, publically available processes. There's not gonna be a big difference in CPU speed at least that needs some sort of unstable workaround.
