Title: So, what 12 MP camera does the iPhone SE have? It's complicated, apparently
Post by: Redaktion on April 16, 2020, 16:04:39
The dust has settled, the new iPhone SE is finally here. But with Apple being typically vague about what hardware it has included in its US$399 iPhone, there is some confusion about the device's 12 MP camera. What does the best single-camera system in an iPhone mean, exactly?

Title: It’s from the XR

The sensor is capable of Extended Dynamic Range in video up to 30 fps, which is similar to the iPhone XS/XR. iPhone 8 can't do HDR in video at all (sensor readout not fast enough), and iPhone 11 can do HDR in video up to 60 fps.
In addition, it doesn't support 'Deep Fusion' or Night Shift, both are features that are available on the iPhone 11. Since it has the same processor as the 11, it appears to be a limitation caused by the sensor.

Its the SAME camera hardware as on the iPhone 8 with some software tweaks. Thats it. And its really disappointing when you keep in mind that the iPhone SE (2016) actually got the exact same camera hardware and software as the iPhone 6s.

Can't wait for the release of the Pixel 4a (and the Xperia 10 II) and for tests against the SE 2020! :-)
