Title: Sony has reportedly started handing out PlayStation 5 Pro devkits to game studios
Post by: Redaktion on October 18, 2022, 20:26:01
A new leak suggests that game developers have started receiving PlayStation 5 Pro devkits from Sony. There is no word about when the console will be unveiled, but it is unlikely to happen before mid-to-late 2023 or early 2024.

The lock 30 was apparently to accommodate the xbox series s. Ps5 showing its age you need to educate yourself a bit better before writing rubbish.

Are you really upset about this article because you own a PS5?
Nothing in the article is particularly wrong.

Targeting 30 FPS is a clear limitation.
It also makes no sense to put a 30 FPS lock on it to accommodate Xbox Series S. First of all: it's stupid to cap the performance to the lowest common denominator. Secondly: what's the point of having a tiered level of performance if it means limiting the most expensive models? It's usually the norm to cripple the cheap model to push people to buy the expensive model, not the other way around. It's a nonsensical excuse.

Third, people forget the lowest denominator is the PC and what is known as the "minimum system requirements." If higher end PCs aren't affected because of the "minimum system requirements", then anyone claiming the same on consoles is just sh*tposting or making excuses for devs cutting corners.

Most PC users are running on 1080 or 1440 monitors, hence the use with minimum system requirements. The problem with the consoles is most users are on 4k TV's, so upscaling is required which is still more demanding than running 1080 or 1440 native. In terms of ray tracing, yes the consoles are a bit underpowered vs say a 4090 with 3rd gen RT cores (and a lot of them). While the consoles aren't underpowered vs an rtx 3060, they are trying to push 4k on hardware that would be more appropriate for 1440p. Even with modern upscaling, many games look very soft in console performance modes.

You think it is showing its age due to Gotham Knights? The game that can't do 45fps using a RTX 4090?

GK is well known to have some awful optimisation work done to it.
