Reports of Pixel 3 or 3 XL device that enter a state in which they become irretrievably unresponsive out of nowhere in the exact same way are growing in number. Such complaints from their phones' users have arisen as early as December 2020, and have now accumulated in number. To date, there is no solution reported to work for all of them.

The out-of-warranty bit shouldn't matter, and there needs to be a change to warranty law regarding things like this. Warranties are meant to deal with individual defects, but for something affecting a large percentage of devices, that should be handled regardless, similar to recalls for vehicles even if they're past their warranty period.
