Title: HP Omen 17 Laptop Review: High-end gaming with some small limitations
Post by: Redaktion on August 28, 2019, 08:26:11
Despite its high price, the current high-end configuration of the HP Omen 17 is still significantly cheaper than other RTX 2080 laptops. Find out whether the HP Omen 17 can keep up with its competition in aspects other than performance in our detailed review.

what can we expect from noise perspective during load ....

.... but for the model with 2070 GPU and 9750 CPU ? would it be possible to make educated guess?

A little dissapointed with this review. There is clearly a PERFORMANCE mode staring at you in the command centre; which likely boosts power restrictions, fans etc, and you did not seem to try it, but then complain it is not matching the other laptops which may be set to thier performance modes out of the box.

I am due to pick up one of these as I got it staggeringly cheaper than the competitors, substantially more than the performance deficit mentioned in pricing terms and will certainly test both undervolting and the performance mode.

Again, rather dissapointed that this was not tested properly; it is rather clear when there is a performance mode in the control software, that standard mode is a compromise!

I'm a bit perplexed about the speaker test.

I own an MSI GE72 6QF Apache Pro and recently bought the OMEN 17 as a replacement. The reviews on this site, which I highly trust, seem to indicate that the speakers in the MSI are singificantly inferior to the ones in OMEN 17.

But this does not seem to be the case. OMEN 17 is not as loud and the bass seems inferior. I have adjusted the speakers' ouput with OMEN Audio Control and updated the drivers but the sound quality is still inferior to a 4 year old laptop in terms of loudness and bass.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

I both Omen 17 as a replacement of failed Schenker Compact 15 - HP clearly is Less loud then Compact 15! and have better GPU (2080 vs 2070).
But loud speakers are a lot less powerful (I keep them at > 50% loudness while at Compact 15 I was keeping them at 30% for comfortable listening)
What clearly was better on Schenker was OLED display ;)

The original thermal paste was enough for graphic card, but insufficient for CPU. Using Shin-Etsu 7921 instead the CPU can reach 90w (power limit) in CPU only stess test, and about 80w when stessed both CPU and graphic card.

Nah! laptop and TV speakers alike are just crap, I recommend getting a small DAC like an FX-Audio DAC-X6 + headphones like DT770.

Very disappointed with battery performance. I am not a gamer so only use Chrome and Word, Exell etc. From 100 to 15 % in 1H 20min.
Maximum is 6 hrs ??? I think max is 2 hrs doing nothing.

If you are not a gamer, why did you bought a gaming laptop? Every gaming laptop has bad battery run time.
