Title: The Sony Xperia Pro edges closer to release with the publication of US firmware
Post by: Redaktion on January 22, 2021, 13:34:02
Sony is on the verge of releasing the Xperia PRO, according to the publication of firmware for the device in the US. Sony announced the smartphone eleven months ago with HDMI, 5G mmWave and 5G Sub-6 connectivity, and a Snapdragon 865 chipset. The Xperia PRO will probably only be available in the US, though.

Who cares, Sony hasn't even updated their flagship phone the Xperia 1 ii in the USA to Android 11 yet.

They don't answer support questions.

They might have some impressive hardware but the lack of support and lack of on time updates memes I'd suggest people look elsewhere.

Why care? Because this is an actual phone with something unique in mind. Manufacturers CAN'T keep up with Samsung's release cycle but are forced to try just to stay relevant (see LG). I prefer more competition for us consumers. Regardless of Sony's inability to keep up with updates, I wish them the best.

I waited forever for this phone. Now it comes out right when the Xperia 1iii is literally right around the corner. The Snapdragon 888 processor will be much more fleshed out for 5G, better WiFi (transferring image/video files, live streaming), better Bluetooth. The most significant item in the new processor that would make a big difference for professionals is the new triple ISP which is a big thing for video and photography compared to the last generation 865 along with the new AI construct. It's going to a very hard sell charging a fortune on old hardware, Sony should scrap it and release the phone with the new hardware. Otherwise it's DOA.

I don't think you could really saturate 802.11ac with 99.9% of the hardware on the market, ditto with 5G, you don't need a better phone because the infrastructure doesn't allow you to actually reach a speed that's not realistically obtainable with 4G.
Crucially, the only unique feature of that phone is the HDMI port, which means it's meant to double as a monitor, and in this sense none of the wireless capabilities nor the ISP have any significant impact.
