Title: Japanese foundry Rapidus is making cutting edge 2 nm nodes with IBM, plans to compete with TSMC and Samsung by 2027
Post by: Redaktion on May 12, 2023, 15:17:26
Japan is seeking to reclaim its former semiconductor production crown with the newly-created Rapidus foundry that is collaborating with IBM to create cutting edge 2 nm chips. The plan is to offer yields and efficiency comparable to TSMC and Samsung by 2027, then usher the angstrom era ahead of the big foundries.

Good luck.  Leading edge node is not where the big money is.  Fabs make the most money from the older processes.  Can someone plz name an industrial/commercial use for 2nm other than phone SoCs?

No company on earth can produce 2nm yet.

Intel and Apple are bidding for TSMC 3nm now. Like all other industries the leading edge technology yields the most money. For each 3nm TSMC made 5 times more money than lower tier ones.

2nm as in actual 2 nanometer or 2nm brand name like Samsung and TSMC does?

5X?  Each node has different price quote and you are not taking into account the years of N3 R&D and much higher operation cost.

Intel is a joke still stuck on 10nm
