Little brother. Powerful hardware within a more compact case: The 15.6-inch Samsung Series 7 Chronos 770Z5E-S01DE is equipped with a fast AMD Radeon HD 8870M graphics card, a matte Full HD display and a premium-quality metal case. We are putting the $1500-laptop through its paces.

Felix, do you have any information on the touchscreen version of this laptop?
Quote"Even some casual gaming was possible [...] Still, this is not a gamer's device."
The 8870M is ranked in the middle of your
Class 1 (!!!) graphics card comparison tree, right below 670M, a chip that gets
very high gaming performance appraisals in many of your reviews! Please don't tell me Class 1 isn't a gaming class or that 670M is a great gaming card when they both virtually have the same performance.
Who in his right mind would buy a laptop with so much GPU power if he wasn't a GAMER?!
I'll just use all this GPU power to edit some word documents. /s
How does this thing get such amazing battery life? The MSI GT60, for example, has very similar hardware and battery capacity, yet gets half the battery life.
There must be a typo in here somewhere. SOMEWHERE.
The HD 8870M is better than the 660M, and far better than the GTX 555M and 540M, both advertised as gaming cards.
YET 10 HOURS? RIDICULOUS! Did they use some crazy magic to get such good performance and battery life? Why aren't any other manufacturers doing it? Even for NoteBookCheck, the greatest notebook review site (screen gamut measuring, detailed performance and battery testing), it is still completely unexplained how this unpopular laptop has absolutely destroyed the status quo.
:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)love ur review ... keep up the good work i just a question how many of 770z5e will come ??? because i need that product of samsung series 7 chronos in which
i7 3rd generation

I simply love my 770z5e, and I've change the HDD with a Samsung 840 pro 256GB and it simply fly !!!
This is the best notebook around today.
If the battery life is accurate, this is one awesome laptop. Fantastic GPU performance, excellent screen, great build quality - what's not to like?

Yeah, can anyone explain this? It's mind boggling. Also, the GT60 is more than twice as thick.
Such a shame about the 5400rpm. Otherwise, I'm sold
@#9, 256 GB, SSD looks to be the standard in Swedish shops: Samsung 7-Series NP770Z5E. Getting mine tomorrow.
Samsung stop copying Apple you did this with phones now with laptops this is ridiculous.
SSD swap is easy on this laptop. many owners have done this without issue. makes this the best on the market for this segment.
The reason for the good battery life is that it's using the Intel HD 4000. Like Nvidia's Optimus, AMD has switchable graphics cards and the 8870 is not in use to get the battery life's recorded in this review. Even then, the battery life is spectacular above pretty much every other laptop, getting around 11 hours non Wifi use and around 6 hours of streaming a HD movie. This can be credited to the 91Whr battery in the Chronos, comparable to the 95Whr one in the 15" rMBP. Adding a SSD in also increases the battery life by an hour or so.

I still maintain that these specs are almost identical to the MSI GT60 laptop, which has a 87Wh battery, intel 3630QM CPU, and nvidia Optimus switchable graphics with a GT 670M/Intel HD 4000, which is just a tiny bit faster than the 8870. It gets 4.5 hrs of battery life. It's also somehow more than twice as thick.

Look at the specs of the MSI GT60 though. 87Wh bartttery, Optimus graphics w/ GT 670M, intel 3630QM, but twice the thickness and 4.5 Hrs of battery life. Mind boggling.
I can't say why then, whether other manufacturers are doing it wrong or if Samsung is doing it right. My current power consumption on the Chronos is only 6W, with WiFi on and a few programs running in the background. Don't know who this compares with other laptops such as the GT60.
Does anyone know when this is supposed to be released? I've been waiting since the beginning of the year and my current laptop is going to die on me! I'd LOVE to know when I can get my hands on one!
I'd be interested to see the insides of this bad boy. The price is crazy but it performs really well considering the size and weight. The cheaper versions such as Series 5 also seem quite nice and I'm curious what delayed the new AMD mid-range graphics cards.
I really wish two of the most stupid trends introduced in recent years would come to an end. Namely:
1. 16:9 displays when 16:10 was wide enough.
2. Click-pads without proper mouse buttons.
Address these 2 Samsung and use SSDs and we might be talking.
enduro :(
that cant be good at all. also apparently the backlight keys are weak and your fingers can slip easy, also the ultra short travel hurts after a while.
Hello !
Quote"As can be found out easily via a number of tools, Samsung uses a TN-panel of the type AU9003, thus refraining from a home-made solution. No alternatives - neither RGB displays nor IPS panels - are offered"
Are you sure of this ? I read elsewhere the panel was supposed to be an IPS one...???
I still dont get if its TN or IPS since this video review says IPS and yet the review states TN
I got mine (S02SE) with a 256 SSD and I'm absolutely in love with this laptop! I play SC2 with high frame rates and great graphics, work for hours under the sun and it's damn easy to carry around. I retired my one year old HP workstation (which cost almost twice what Samsung is charging for the series 7 Chronos) and I got better performance and almost half the weight ... amazing!
Does it contain phthalates, or BFR's? Does the power supply?

SSD can't be erased so easily so not so good for data security.
I think the fact that it doesn't come with an SSD can actually be used as an advantage because the price now becomes significantly lower. All you have to do is buy a Samsung 840 Pro SSD and install it in and boom - you have a really fast and powerful laptop at still a very affordable price range and at least $1,000 cheaper than a MacBook with similar specs.
As for the comment regarding the back cover not being that easy to open, I disagree. It is relatively simple and the whole process can be done in a few hours. I made a small guide showing how simple it is to clone the HDD to the SSD, open up this laptop and install the SSD. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnM7DcgQcDk

Thank you so much, man, I just need it
Hello i have the NP880Z5E - touchscreen, black but i have mager fps issues i turned silent mode off, pluggid my pc in and set the game on high preority. i got max 60fps on minecraft all max, fullscreen but i should be getting 112fps :S same with simcity with everything tuned down i get 40fps but u should be getting 80. i did update my AMD driver to 13.6 beta2 and then turned it back to 13.1(also my intel driver is now at the begging version when you buy this laptop) that helped with some games like skyrim before i cant go above 21fps(diddnet matter what settings i picked) but now in 13.1 i get 45fps on high. i also tryd reinstalling java, windows updates etc.
and my dxdiag says that there is a error with direct3D but when i tried to reinstall directx11 it says that i already have the most updated version. only BF3 runs pretty good (dx9) but better at the 13.6 driver. and i get only 10fps on "3DMark11Workload1" with is weard i think
i got insurande for this laptop so i dont want to overclock it but still at the stuck settings is should be doing better than this dont you think?
I am just curious how is the sound quality of the 8W JBL sound system compared to the Dynaudio in the MSI GX60/GT60/GT70?
Also, I heard that the NP550P7C-S05UK model has 4W JBL plus 5W subwoofer. I cannot find its review anywhere. How is that sound quality compared?

any ideas where to buy this in the uk?
I have to agree with too many of the comments here: This review of this awesome Samsung Series 7 is good if not fulfilling, leaving too many pertinent questions unanswered; but why does NOTEBOOCHECK :-\ insist upon calling this a casual gamers device for casual gamers when this Samsung clearly rings the 'GAMER'S BELLS AND WHISTLES!' :)

Piece of crap....brightness flashes bright then dim....the number keyboard is hit and miss...sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't..loses wi-fi...lots of little things.....terrible..expesive.....DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
Hi. I got exactly this laptop. I want exchange this qwertz keyboard to UK qwerty version (US keyboard have another shape of enter) I found the keyboard on ebay, supposedly compatible model NP770Z5E, but I'm not sure if it will work properly. Whether the type designation S01DE/S01PL/S02FR ... has some effect on the compatibility? Question is simple: Does anyone have any experience with replacing the keyboard in this model ?
I've had one of these for about 9 months now, and I'm very happy with it. Battery life is really, really good. The CPU is plenty for any task I throw at it. Trackpad, keyboard, etc are all good too. Sound is good enough for listening to music or watching a film.
The high-res display is very good, although 1920x1080 on a 15" display means that things often look small. Windows can increase font sizes by 25 or 50%, but this can mess up some other things, and graphics often don't look good when increased in size.
Only issue I've had is a bug with the display brightness - switching on from Standby, it occasionally gets stuck on 100% brightness, requiring a reboot, which is frustrating.
Final point: upgrading hard drive is not actually that difficult. I found a YouTube video that told me what to do. It just requires patience and a gentle touch.
All in all, very happy with this laptop. Recommended.
If you looking for used one don`t buy this one, you will have loads of problems regarding drivers and even basic things like mic and web cam, it seems samsung dont give a f about updating drivers & software to win 10.
