Title: Tesla will allow other cars on its charging network in the U.S. but wants the government to pay for Superchargers, too
Post by: Redaktion on February 24, 2022, 16:27:35
Tesla's well-established Supercharger network would be a willing participant in the Infrastructure Bill's US$7.5 billion effort to build 500,000 EV charging stations nationwide. In comments sent to the FHA, however, Tesla notes that it'd like its exclusive Supercharger stations to get the same grant treatment as any public stations it builds where non-Tesla cars can be charged.

This is baloney. Spin off Supercharger as a standalone entity or sell it outright to a oil company that already has a retail network (like Shell).

Asking the Feds to subsidize something that is already done so well (sales and distribution) in the private sector is a non-starter.

Or set up Supercharger as a JV with several existing retailers (WalMart, target, Costco) and let the JV manage the grants.

This article is a complete misrepresentation. All Tesla is saying is that if they install a charger with a Tesla connector and a dedicated CCS adapter that it should qualify. I don't understand why there were be any issue with that. This is just Tesla bashing.

How can you label Tesla's Superchargers as exclusive if they are going to be opened to everyone and, well, non exclusive? Very deceptive manipulating language you use.

" In other words, Tesla will take the government money for creating public charging stations serving other standards, but wants reciprocal grants to apply towards Supercharger stations that only fill up Teslas, too."
This line is not in agreement with the quote from Tesla to the feds

Will non-tesla owners be required to knock their body panels out of alignment to use the Tesla Superchargers?  Wouldn't want to shame the Tesla owners too badly  ;D

I think there should be one charging standard for the USA and the rest of the world just like gasoline cars have. Tesla should adopt this standard with all of their new cars moving forward. This is online with what Elon has said in the past and to help the world transition to cleaner transportationus. We saved Tesla in the past and mark my words we'll have to do it again in the future.
