BMW iX xDrive50 pummels the Tesla Model X in a real-world range test

60% city?

Of course it beat its EPA range figure if they did 60% city driving. Who does 225 miles of city driving then 150 miles of freeway? What a pointless test.

You only care about range for pretty much exclusively freeway driving, where I doubt the iX does quite so well.

You forgot to mention the BMW has 120 Kilwatt battery versus the 100Kw battery in the Tesla.  320 kilowatts per hundred miles for BMW versus 294 kilowatts per hundred miles in the Tesla.  Guess which one is more efficient?

The iX has a 111.5 kWh battery (of which 105.2 kWh are useable) and is more efficient than the Model X according to Edmunds.

The 2020 model x and this bmw m50 is a poor comparison. The m50 is way down on power comparatively. The m60 is a better comparison for the 2022 model x and the BMW M60 because they both have 600 horsepower. The 2022 model x gets over 355 miles of range whereas the model 60 gets 280 with that same size battery pack that the M50 has. I'm not a Tesla fanboy and I don't own any of their products. This is like comparing a Honda C-rv and a Chevy suburban on gas mileage. I don't think the Tesla model x is a looker but that BMW is definitely ugly. Just my opinion though.

What is plan for end of life batteries on either car. Maybe I missed it, but would be nice if Tesla and BMW outline their plans. I know batteries can be used for storage after practical life on original car, but after say ten plus ten, twenty years what is plan?

Yeah but the iX was in winter and the model X was in summer with most efficient wheels ....
Overall they will be similar in efficiency so the iX will have a slightly larger range. I traded my 2020 Model X for an iX, what a difference. 360 camera with cross traffic warning / braking. No phantom braking. CarPlay, dead silent ....

The ix has a similar cargo and passenger volume to the smaller Model Y. The Model X is a bigger car that seats up to 7. It is wider and longer. It also has much more powerful motors and performance. And even though the ix has the same size inside as the Model Y it has a whopping 111 kWh battery. The bigger Model X has a 100 kWh battery and the Model Y, 80 kWhs.

So put a 111 kWh battery pack in a smaller Model Y and see what range you get.

There was an update called the Long Range Plus which had an EPA range of 371 miles.  The newest version is slightly lower, but still mid 300's, not less than 300.

Let it be noted though that Tesla Xs have NEVER gotten their EPA rated range. Not in Edmunds' real world tests, and they've tested several, or for owners. As an owner of two Xs now spanning 7 years, mine both averaged about 400w/mile no matter how conservatively I drove. My current X may be rated for 275 miles, but I'm ecstatic if I get 200.

Recent trip, left Spokane and drove ~70 mph and went 185 miles on a 275 mile charge. Arrived at my charger with 15 miles left in the battery. I've not read anything suggesting that the new Xs are any better at reaching their "rated" range.
