Xiaomi is revamping the packaging of the Mi 10T Lite in Europe by using cardboard instead of plastic. The result should yield up to 60% less plastic used without needing to remove the charger or case from the box, an impressive feat. Xiaomi has, of course, took another opportunity to remind people of Apple's recent decision to do otherwise, though.

Umm...no. The move from plastics back to paper is largely pseudo-science. Pollution, water and carbon all remain unsolved issues in the paper industry, while the only true argument against plastics is its lack of biodegradability and potential movement up the food chain before it's able to degrade in the wild. The proper way to reduce environmental impact is to continue to use plastics but properly enforce recycling, which would not only reduce waste but also reduce reliance on fossil fuel because of the lowered need for newly produced plastics.
