Huawei uses a massive 1/1.54" sensor on its ultra-wide-angle shooters, but has been unable to pair it with a lens that can provide an industry-competitive field of view. Things are expected to change with the upcoming Mate 40 Pro, however, as a new leak claims the phone will sport a new, innovative lens type.

These are essentially radical aspherics and have been used in small format lenses for many years because such small molds are easy to produce, and ray tracing has been around for decades. Another marketing stunt? A real feat would be to have them cover MFT or above though, because each of them could substitute for 2-3 regular spherical elements.
