Has any research gone into this article? OpenOffice is long dead, and many, many people are recommending switching over to Libre.

This article is a joke. In the first sentence about Office 365 (Microsoft 365) price, it gives away that author knows absolutely nothing about that ecosystem and even about pricing. Example given there's a license under 5$ for first line workers and I could go on but I think I showed my point. If you think that Office suite of apps is word, excel, powerpoint and few others, you're out of touch. So next time before writing an article or opinion piece, please check what you're writing about. Many thanks

OpenOffice is still being hosted and the last update was in late 2021, but yes it is practically dead. It uses way less resources than LibreOffice, though. There are other subtle differences in the UI as well, although that can pretty much be solved with customisation.

There's a simple solution.  Buy Microsoft Office 365 annual subscription for $100, share it with 4 friends and charge them $25 each. Then your price becomes zero.

Never switching to a subscription based Word processor solely on principle. Completely unacceptable that I am leeched for money to write a document or an occasional presentations

100% agree with you, Bill Gates made his money renting software and office/teams is one of the only reasons today we use Microsoft products. And most external development assumes office integration.

How about we put together a total window removal list, best Linux based desktop, office replacement suite, browser, and gaming system. Too show people how to remove Microsoft from their lives completely.
At least personal PC as companies have too much apps integration.

As far as the people saying Microsoft is cheap do not live or work in non western countries where cost of living is less and so are wages.

If you make 5.00 US a day then renting office is expensive. But remember we do not pay for all the BS you do so so not think ohh poor people do not make the same$$ as we do.

Your costs keep going up because your government likes to take your money and you companies like Microsoft are bad and the people who run Companies like Facebook do not care about you.

Our countries are run by humans who do not let your companies in and do things to help the people not steal from them or be purchased by big companies.

So we have happier people on less money, but your companies cannot stand it and try to get in all the time.

The world evil is not what you may think it is. Follow the white rabbit. Take the red pill. Open your eyes.
