A notice has been published on Microsoft's support site for Windows 10 stating that the rollout for the scheduled update for October 2018 (version 1809) has been paused. It seems a number of users have reported grave issues with the update, including considerable loss of data and even detrimental effects on a device's battery life.

May be these punks will finally realize that it is time to stop forcing updates upon users and let them decide when to download and install updates, if at all.
You CAN delay feature updates for up to 365 days:
win+i / update & security / Windows Update / Advanced options.
I got three very different computers updated now to version 1809. Without problems (all directly updated from version 1709).
Always sad (and a little amusing) how so many people goes on to rely on Microsoft to take care of all safety at feature updates.
Get a working system backup; Macrium Reflect has worked for me since windows 8 was introduced, and saved my thinkpad from incurable microsoft introduced problems. Worst the latest years: Update to version 1803 made my thinkpad unbootable.

P. S.: In less than 2 years, Nadella's leadership has transformed me from a Windows-enthusiast-for-life to their most vicious critic.
I say, give us back that sick Balmer+Sinofsky combo, so we can have another quality Windows... Like 7 & 8 were. I revisit the 2011's "Building Windows 8" blog, and I weep.
