If only they would move away from PenTile (RG/BG). It is a shame the iPhone X missed the critical point of becoming the first smartphone with a full-matrix high-res OLED display. PenTile (RG/BG), today most commonly in the form of "Diamond PenTile", is a deceptive marketing practice in which displays are produced with only RG or only BG mapping to every other denoted pixel, instead of RGB in every pixel, but are sold using the same resolution spec. It introduces visual artifacts that would not be present in "lower resolution" full-matrix displays that deliver the same effective sharpness. It does not address screen burn-in compared to "lower resolution" full-matrix displays of similar effective sharpness either, because it does increase the total screen area coverage ratio per color in a way that cannot be accounted for by using differently-sized RGB components in a full-matrix display.
Samsung should have explored 1920(RGB)x1080 OLED before considering 2560(RG/BG)x1440. They did not. We still hope they will explore 2560(RGB)x1440 before they consider 3840(RG/BG)x2160. The iPhone X uses "2436(RG/BG)x1125" (forgiving the truncation of the speaker region and rounded corners) and it would have been preferable for them to pursue a full matrix instead.
The difference is noticeable, in VR applications but also outside of them. There are both principle and practicality reasons why companies need to stop PenTile, and why we need to call it out when it happens.
