Title: Expensive Asus Zephyrus laptops tend to ship with single-channel memory only
Post by: Redaktion on October 28, 2019, 03:22:25
It's a common cost-cutting maneuver for budget gaming laptops that most high-end gaming laptops offer as standard. Retailers and resellers often neglect to mention the mode or how many RAM slots are available on product pages.

I for one welcome the option to just add a 16gb SODIMM to get to 32GB, rather than having to spend almost double the money getting a 2x16 kit.

Exactly @ImaSpacePotato. Putting single channel is no better or worse. You get worse initial performance(with Intel usually only noticeable in terms of iGPU) but much better upgrade path.

Clearly stating used/free RAM slots should be a thing though- as mentioned. Which ones are soldered and therefore non-replaceable too(although soldering is still gonna be a middle finger to the customer nevertheless)

Yeah, everybody prefers to have that upgrade path option since the single-channel/dual-channel performance difference is unintelligible here.

It's definitely a silly article.
