The upcoming Google Pixel 4a and Pixel 5 could be priced at US$349 and and US$699, respectively as indicated by a recent Google Opinion Rewards survey. While the Pixel 4a pricing makes it a good alternative to the iPhone SE 2020, it remains to be seen if the "Premium" Google Pixel 5 can withstand the continued onslaught of Android flagship killers or even the upcoming iPhone 12.

This is fine and an excellent move. Google never had any interest in gamers (until the failure that is Stradia) so why would they put the extremely expensive flagship snapdragon SoC in their phones? Gamers buy the gaming dedicated phones. Google doesn't need flagship SoC for image processing because they will likely include their on accelerator chip or even use Sony's new sensor with an accelerator on the main sensor.
Google can either keep producing underwhelming "flagships" in an already saturated market, never gain market share, or they can make something affordable and sufficient for 100% satisfaction in 99% of users at half the price of a flagship and enjoy 4x more sales.
The Smartphone market is crying for a feature complete phone with no notch. If they can deliver 3.5mm and an SD card slot, this phone will be an absolute winner; a direct competitor to Sony's $1300 flagship with barely any downsides for 99% of users.
Let's not forget the Google software and updates premium and being a US company.

Since when is $700 affordable? It's still very much a premium phone territory. As evidenced by iPhone. The $350 question is what they can possibly offer compared to Pixel 4a that's worth the money. The people you speak of would probably be just as happy with the cheaper 4a. Except for the knowledge they've got the (relatively) cheap Pixel. And Google still can't match Apple for software updates. Not to mention that the market for more affordable phones is even more crowded.
Personally, I wouldn't count on the headphone jack or card reader.
699 for midrange processor? And what are they going to put in 350 one? SD450? And coming to batteries, why the heck can't they give 4500mah like the competition! Why can google do it when OnePlus can do?
Those who are saying 700 is not affordable well it sure is given current prices of other flagships. Google can squeeze out good performance from a mid range chipset. I think they will do really well with these two models. I'm excited to know more about them
