Title: Damage control: Microsoft deletes all comments under heavily criticized Windows 11 upgrade video
Post by: Redaktion on August 03, 2021, 22:16:53
Some of the now deleted comments accused Microsoft of being tone-deaf, while others harshly criticized Windows 11's controversial hardware requirements. The company now tries to get the displeased owners of incompatible hardware back under control.

But it is not censorship. Just private businesses with large and purposefully built forums for discourse, moderated to their liking.

Microsoft pretending like nothing's wrong with such a steep dislike percentage? Sounds like silencing those who disagree, lel. Oh no, people don't want to have to upgrade just for a useless "security feature" on their computer, who would've guessed. Shove your TPM2.0, MS.

just report the video as misleading, because in 2015 they said windows 10 their last OS. now they just axe most of their user.

so the trend is true, after one good OS, microsoft follow it with bad one.

XP (good), Vista (bad), 7 (Good), 8 (Bad), 10 (good), 11 (I think it become bad)

Can't progress if you have to make everything backward compatible. There has to be some point where you look more to the future than the past. Such a storm in a tea cup.

It's like saying, why can't I play Cyberpunk on my 10 year old graphics card and gaming console? What a joke.

Not sure what the fuss is over Win11. Win10 will still work and will still get updates. There's zero benefit on updating to Win11 unless you're intending to jump into benefits outlined by Microsoft. And again you can still use Win10.

Also MacOS has been brick walling as a practice for decades now with arbitrary OS updates based on hardware you cannot even self upgrade. Yet no one bats an eyelid, but are so willing to drink the kool-aid of security benefits.

More discussion is needed rather than being an angry child not getting their new toys.

Yeah, it's never cool to censor CONSTRUCTIVE voices but let's be honest here.

Many of those comments were from retarded, very vulgar languages, pycho minds just to say, "hey, MS, I do not share your strategy for Win11, what's the compromise, as you would even claim, for your over 1B+ Win10 users to updrade to Win11"

No... they were unbelievablely insulting MS, etc. that even the devil would go...  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's right. Microsoft finally used Apple strategy and do as Cupertino.
Or does anyone doubt it?  :)

Hardly anybody cares about Windows 11. People are angry because in 4 years they perfectly working PCs won't be supported anymore. And please don't come saying that in 4 years they will be too old. Some 6th and 7th gen desktops (and laptops) have all the security requirements and could very well be used past 2025... Even something like my 4th gen i7-4770k with 32GB RAM will still be more than capable in 4 years... That's the real reason.... And people are angry because Microsoft said that Win 10 was the last version of Windows and people expected a very long support...
Now they'll have to use an unsupported PC if they want to keep using their hardware. And I can assure you many will, especially if it's not their only device. They are not going to through them away, but it sucks because at some point browsers and cloud services will start to drop compatibility....

Nothing you said here is true other than those computers can technically be used well into the future with the applicable OS. These security features are beneficial to the end user and all of the CPU models you listed have known severe vulnerabilities. Have the ones we know of technically been patched.. yes however this does not take away from the fact that they need patched in the first place along with the performance degradation. Windows 11 is windows 10 with some new features mainly in the security category so why you are even complaining i do not know. Us windows 10 then Jesus.. also just to be clear just because someone has a plan (ie. MS saying 6 years ago an OS would be its last) doesn't mean things don't change or unforeseen circumstance present themselves and if you are involved in the tech world currently then you are fully aware of our current security climate in the industry.

Frankly, they don't care an inch about their user's security. No, what they want is to 'secure' their user's data all for themselves and don't share with anyone else, just like Apple and like what Google is doing  with Android. Data is the new oil.

Actually that's why MacOS is a minor player in the desktop PC market. It looks to me like it's Microsoft that has drunk the whole bottle of kool-aid and now it's basically begging people to switch OS.

The point is that extensive legacy support was very much one reason for the success of Windows in the desktop computer market. If you have to throw both hardware and software every 5 years people might very well switch to something else entirely.

Well 2 of my more than adequate Windows 10 laptops will be refused Windows 11. I don't care about the crap added to Windows 11. just need a solid basic interface capable of reasonability's to do simple work and good streaming speed.   Windows 10 offers that.  Since it won't be supported any longer I will have to move  to another system.   What's the best choice?

TPM2 was on my gen 4   intel i7 ASUS and I really don't know why the did not start using it sooner it was made over 7 years ago.    sadly i will not be able to put windows 11 on it since it has a flaw in the intel CPU.  I think intel should remake CPUs for those of us that can use them.   I would like a upgraded and more bug free gen 4 i7 4ghz.

I have a Threadripper with tpm  2.0 and secure boot. I don't qualify for the update. Threadripper 1950X didn't make the cut with no reason why. It meets and exceeds every requirement. GPU meets all the requirements too. I'm at a loss as to why the cpu didn't make the list of supported processors.

Listen guys this update wipe out hackers..that's why it was made in the first place. The hardware makes hackers visable when matched with the hardware that was developed years ago in the cpu..just because your manufacturer cheated you with parts not added is not Microsoft fault. Get a new system or a tpm or use tpp.  >:(

I don't understand why MS isn't just calling Windows 11, "Windows 10S" (s for secure)... or adding the features to the security oriented version that already exists... and dropping all the UI stuff as options for everyone else. I mean, I sort of understand, it's money, but this is going to backfire on Microsoft since Linux gaming is finally becoming a serious option and telling a bunch of people that they have to upgrade their hardware or bite it just as the main reasons to use Windows are getting chopped at the legs anyway is going to go over like a lead balloon.

Of course, the old computers will be fine in 6 years. I remember I got Pentium II 150mhz (?). It just kept soldier on...

(I bought a laptop which was pretty high level through work). After 3 years when I had payed it down, it was useless. I guess your i7 or whatever will be nice when we get close to quantum computers or at least their power. Imagine video card get old before processor.

I have no technical insight. However I remember good and get bananas when stuff does not work anymore.

I wonder how long people here have experience with OS. I used win98 look until 10. I am still disappointed that I needed to learn where stuff was again!

I mean let's face it... they are just following in the footsteps of Apple. When your device is too old, you can't install the latest Apple OS either.

Get used to upgrading every 4-5 years... it's the way it's going to be from now on.

For those that keep talking about hacking the system requirements it's not an issue for now. But then you either didn't watch or understand what Microsoft said. We will block you once the insider is over.... There will be regular checks and if your PC does not meet the requirements it will be blacklisted and will stop receiving updates... At that point you better stayed on 10, at least you have updates for another 4 years....
Personally I will keep all my devices as long as they work after 2025, but mostly as secondary devices (most of them are touch and pen enabled convertible devices). I have already 2 laptops that are W11 compatible out of 10, and I am progressively moving to Apple Silicon Macs (which run Windows surprisingly well). I have zero interest in Linux.

I have one instance of Win 10 out of 11 systems as dual boot on an I7 top of the line ASUS that isn't TPM2.0 compatible. I literally only use Win for Visio. Will move my Win 10 to a virtual instance and never upgrade. The offline Windows updater from Germany keeps security up to date. I'll retire before it becomes an issue.  In the meantime, I'll continue to rely on Linux as our sole household OS just as I have since 2000.

I am confused by the comments on this article. People are mad that windows 11  will not be supported by hardware 7th gen Intel CPUs yet are ok that their more expensive cell phone will only maybe get updated for 2 years?  Also you have to void your warranty to replace the glued in battery and wreck your waterproofing. Something is wrong here.

I'm 71 so if I am still alive in 2025 I will just not use a computer any longer :p
Or I maybe just install something other than MS.  I think I have paid them enough over the years for their OS's they ram down our throats "many of which were just plain junk" and we had to buy a new version of their OS because of the crappy ones they put out and forced us to buy a new one when we hardly got any use from the $100+ junk they dumped on us. >:(
Maybe they will force us to be vaxed before we can use their junk OS!  :o
