Title: The UX550 Zenbook Pro is Asus's answer to Dell's XPS 15
Post by: Redaktion on May 28, 2017, 15:44:43
Asus's updated Zenbook Pro has finally made its appearance, and it looks worth the wait. With a quad-core CPU and GTX 1050Ti packed into its diamond-cut aluminum chassis, the Zenbook Pro might be the laptop you've been waiting for.

No SD card reader is a deal breaker for some. 72 Wh battery also may not be very reliable since there's a 1050Ti in there, than 97 Wh + 1050. Good for people really looking for a somewhat serious gaming laptop with a sleek look of a business laptop.

Also just got a Cert Refurb XPS 15 all max (except for Win 10 home which I have my own key for the upgrade) from official outlets for $1400 US all discounts inclusive. Beat that!

Finally normal screen centered letter keyboard! Now you don't have to twist your torso to type in like it was with numeric pad keyboard. there's external numpad keyboards if you need one and you can use those on your right as on the left thre's space for mouse!

Right off the bat,

Pros: startes at US$1300 (forces gaming and mobile workstation brands to drop their insane prices), i7HQ + 1050Ti in a relatively decent chassis, TB3 (hopefully x4 PCIe)

Cons: late release (as always Asus), too thin almost always means bad cooling, lacking some ports, touchscreen but no active pen is impractical, no Windows Hello IR cam, power button on the keyboard, no function keys for brightness control, keyboard is still a little off-center, FP reader on the touchpad, much smaller battery compared to competition, screen and speakers are probably worse than competition as did before

Personally given the specs and price for the maxed out model, not as appealing as gaming laptops of similar weight. Hopefully NBC could test both the 4K and Full HD variants.

There's a mistake here, it mentions 1x Thunderbolt 3 & 1x USB 3.1 Type-C... but the fact is both ports are Thunderbolt 3 enabled.. and that's according to the website in both features and spec. pages.

@Xajel:
Even if that's true, they will probably use a smaller controller with a total of x4 PCIe lanes for the two ports combined.

Then, What's better UX550 or Dell XPS 15?
I'd like the UX550 also had the possibility to use 32GB RAM
Which one has less hardware failures?
Which one has better battery duration?

@skan:
Apart from the dGPU performance, the XPS 15 is much better on almost all fronts, including international service, battery life, chassis durability, display, touchpad, audio quality, etc. Especially since Asus raised the price a whopping US$400 from the previous Zenbook Pro UX501VW, which is a real shame.

@dthrp

And how do you know all this? The model havn't been reviewed yet so you are just speculating for most of this.
