Title: First Coffee Lake 6-core mobile CPU benchmarks are in
Post by: Redaktion on August 30, 2017, 10:56:39
GeekBench got hold of spec and performance information on a mysterious 6-core Coffee Lake mobile CPU. It's default clock is set to 2.6 GHz, but it can boost to 4.0 GHz. The gen 8 model seems to have the same single-core performance as the 7th gen i7-7700HQ. However, the multi-core tests show a 40% performance gain over the gen 7 CPU.

Does this 6 core kaby lake cpu have the same power usage and tdp as the 7700hq? If so then looking at these performance gains it's time to upgrade again. The G75VX's 3630qm is finally becoming old.

It certainly is not an ultra-low voltage CPU if it beats the i7-7700HQ. Intel probably tried to come up with a similar TDP compared to the i7-7700HQ, since the base clock of the 6-core is only 2.6 GHz.

Hmm...it has the same number of threads as the desktop Coffee Lake i7 (12 threads), but the  same amount of L3 cache as the desktop Coffee Lake i5 (9 MB). Just curious, does cache amount play a role in power consumption?

I just realized they were comparing this Coffee Lake CPU to the 7700HQ, which was actually the lowest tier i7 quad-core H-series CPU, not the highest. Surely, the top-tier (most likely 8920HQ) will have 12 MB of L3 cache.
