No, Microsoft has not released a new or slimmed-down operating system. Instead, Windows 12 Lite is a Linux distribution that, according to its developers, is superior to Windows 10 "in every respect". Someone is even selling physical install discs of the dodgy Linux distribution, too.

It's fraud and you should present it that way!
this evil company will charge people and at the same time its violation of GPL.
useless os finally brings the Linux in by the way they used to talk s*** about Linux all the fucking long time ago.
completely ruining the free community like that
@seanol - Charging people is not a violation of the GPL. As long as they provide the source code to anyone who bought it and they give proper credit, its GPL compliant.
Of course that doesn't change the fact that this is shady and I wouldn't suggest installing it but never the less, I don't see a GPL violation.
Nvidea ???
@A, it violates GPL, as the software is 'no licence', and GPL licenced software must maintain the GPL licence or higher after changes.
Yep. As a Linux user.... As a linux user that would still recommend this over windows... And distribution on CD/DVD means not too many people will use it. The name is still in poor taste.
So is this article. "To be clear, this distribution likely infringes on multiple trademarks." is the same thing as saying, "To be clear, we don't know anything yet." while at the same time sounding like you are an authority.
This subject is now old. Stop trying to monetize it.
This is nothing more than a scamming . He tries to make money presenting a linux distribution as the next windows 10 it will have a windows wallpaper so what ?
I'm sure he targets people without any knowledge about linux or windows operating systems.
Its sad what kind of scams people are inventing to make some bucks !
Copyright and trademark violations are completely separate things — please don't muddy the waters.
There is a clear trademark violations here, which relates to the misleading name ( exactly why this is disallowed).
Are these the same guys who made windows 97? :-\
@Essex Mcintosh - Not exactly, your software can still have no license/public domain even if parts of it are under GPL.
I quote from GNU:
"Being in the public domain is not a license; rather, it means the material is not copyrighted and no license is needed. Practically speaking, though, if a work is in the public domain, it might as well have an all-permissive non-copyleft free software license. Public domain material is compatible with the GNU GPL."

The way you wrote suggests you think this is actually Microsoft releasing this?! It's just some dodgy developer with a Linux distro. BTW, MS have incorporated Linux into Windows already with their Windows subsystem for Linux (WSL) - it's been around for a while now.
Woooooow dude it have Nvidia drivers, cool now I can run the newest games on ultra 4k 144hz
What about coming with more ram? Hahaaha
;D ;D ;D ;D
Information wants to be free.
I truly feel bad for you if this upsets you. Laugh a little, maybe live a little. If you take your involvement with computers SO SERIOUSLY that you have stopped laughing at silly jokes and pranks, then maybe you need a little break.
Many modern computers don't even have disc drives anyway so why bother offering it on CD? ;D
Meh, I mean I love Linux and all, plus this is just hilarious that someone's released it but if you're hardware is solid you're gonna be good in general. Also depending on the Linux distro it may be updated about or just as much as Windows anyhow (looking at you Ubuntu!).
I literally get a 3sec boot to login screen w/ a NVMe SSD and 16GB of RAM. Not even top of the line hardware, just something to think about...
3 sec boot on a Win10 machine, that is
another troll in internet....
:) ;)
