Title: HP Pavilion Gaming 15t (i7-8750H, GTX 1060 3 GB) Laptop Review
Post by: Redaktion on September 18, 2018, 19:06:00
Cut corners. How much is a 144 Hz display worth? The Pavilion Gaming 15t is HP's latest entry in the budget gaming laptop market, designed to compete with the likes of Acer's Helio 300 and Dell's G7. While most areas of the notebook are good (including its high refresh rate screen), HP cut a few corners in their pursuit of the best budget gaming notebook.

Lets face it, the new hex cores from Intel are hot chips and they probably exceed the 45W TDP (which is rated for base frequency) by a large margin (thinking more of 70-80W on full boost). As we can see, most manufacturers struggle to make a good cooling solution for the 8750H that is also cheap and simple enough to make a profit on it. I think that a slightly bigger fan, coupled with 3 thermal pipes would solve the issues, but it would probably be expensive to build and people wouldn't buy their premium line of notebooks.

It is such a shame that it has got only 3 gb version of the GTX 1060. If it was the 6 GB version it would be near to perfect.

Using this laptop for half year already, for my experience if you using intel xtu to stress test it you will notice that within 30 seconds it will auto turn down the tdp to 35W and power limit throttling. From 3.8 GHz down to 3.1 GHz.

Seems the reviewer didn't turn on the Fan Idle option when reviewing, unlike for the sister models, which explains the louder idling noise and poorer battery life.

I purchased this laptop for $750 during Cyber Monday (60hz panel, 8gb ram, 16gb intel optum ssd, with 1tb 7200 rpm hd. I play with an Oculus Rift on this device and it works pretty well but the main problem is the cooling. It turns out that my heatsink is somewhat warped and when trying to fix it I pretty much made things worse. Now the real problem is that HP will not even sell me a new heatsink, and i cant find a replacement online or anywhere. Support tells me im not covered under warranty anymore because i added 8gb ram and replaced intel optum for 1tb nvme ssd.  For that reason alone I will NEVER purchase an HP again...ever!  Now im trying to find a similar heatsink from any manufacturer, or a diy mod, else im going to turn this into a desktop.  Anybody got an idea?

i got a similar model with i5-8300h and 1050ti from walmart  BF sale for $480 back in 2018.  Still a solid laptop.  I can tell you that the one i got has HDMI 2.0 as well as DP 1.2 function for the usb type c.  So you actually have two 4K 60hz output.  the HDMI is connected to the 1050ti while the usb type c DP 1.2 output is connected to the intel UHD.
