Title: Dell XPS 15: No GeForce GTX 1660 Ti model, but a GTX 1650 version is coming
Post by: Redaktion on April 27, 2019, 16:58:37
The company has revealed that it has no plans to introduce a GTX 1660 Ti with its XPS 15 refresh, nor will it release a white version either as it has with recent XPS 13 models. The new XPS 15 will come with a GTX 1650 though, Frank Azor confirms.

The 1660 Ti sounds well and good, but you guys neglected to test its power consumption. How does it compare to the 1050 Ti Max-Q that the current XPS 15 has? I suspect the performance comes with too high a price in watts and thermals, thus the decision to use the 1650 instead.

Simply because a XPS15 9580 with 1660TI equipped, will affect the selling of Alienware M15

It is good, even if GTX1660ti would have been fitted, would have been throttled down to half the performance to keep acceptable temperature. Also 8 Core processor what for? The 6 Core throttles too. A four Core i5 is the optimal for this laptop. The writer of this article is total off...

A 1660ti with what, a few hours of battery, hot thighs, and performance of a 1650 anyway.

Agree with the other poster the optimal configuration on the xps is a midrange cpu paired with a moderate graphics card. I'm more interested in seeing what ports are added, OLED, what kid of case (maybe carbon or something new) and usb charging options. In all honesty I'm most pumped about scoring last year's XPS at a discounted price :)... I don't use Webcam

I have a 9570 i7, 16GB and 1050ti max-q model, fullHD, great notebook with few flaws: coil whine and throttling.

For coil whine seems there is no solution but regarding throttling there is a fix: undervolting with throttlestop (untill -150mV and below) and repasting it with some good thermal compound; I can use the entire CPU Power now.

But NOT, definitely not, a 1660ti would be a good choice because the screen is too "slow" for gaming resulting in ghost effect especially when gaming high speed games like quale champions.

XPS notebooks are a good all-rounder performers but not the best for gaming.
