Title: Lenovo ThinkPad P70-20ER000XUS Workstation Review
Post by: Redaktion on October 11, 2016, 08:40:15
Pricey yet powerful. Lenovo's latest P70 configuration features an Intel Xeon Skylake CPU and bumps the GPU to an NVIDIA M4000M, while also introducing NVMe SSD storage. How do these upgrades affect overall performance? And is this still a workstation worth considering today?

Hey Steve, out of [Lenovo P70, Dell M7710 and HP 17 G3] and [P50, M7510 and 15 G3], which ones would have the lowest power consumption and the longest batter life while just doing simple wifi browsing at 40% brightness all other factors unchanged? Considering they each have FHD non-touch display with 96whr battery, Xeon 1505m CPU, same Nvme SSD and M5000M/M2000M graphics?

All Thinkpad P series laptops have a BIOS option to choose between hybrid graphics or discrete graphics only. So either the review model came with the latter enabled by default or, the reviewer didn't realize dGPU was selected in control panel>3d settings>global presets.

When Nvidia Optimus is enabled, the P70 should be able to last approximately 6 hours of Wi-fi browsing for the UHD model, and 8.5 hours for the non-touch FHD.
