Title: Solid-state NASA battery beats the Model Y's 4680 pack at energy density by stacking all cells in one case
Post by: Redaktion on October 08, 2022, 22:22:45
NASA has achieved a breakthrough in its solid-state battery research aimed at electricity-powered transportation. NASA's solid-state battery stacks all of its cells in one casing, reducing weight and increasing the energy density twice compared to that of Li-ion batteries in the typical electric car.

Why aren't we using these solid state batteries for suits and tools?  Still using Li batteries for equipment that is in development.

It's most likely a cost issue. How much would it be $/kwh. Current batteries are around $130-250/kwh depending on supply constraints. Plus they would also need to develop a mass manufacturing method before they can make manufacturing plants for them. Hopefully they'll be done in a few more years

Shouldn't the taxpayers who are the shareholders benefit from this tech? I never understood capitalism where the taxpayers hard cash of monies is involved and some whalers CEOs derive their wealth from it.

Prototypes are easy, mass manufacturing is haaaaaaaaaaard
