The UX550VE is being refreshed to the UX550GD with i5-8300H, i7-8750H, and even i9-8950HK SKUs. At just 18.9 mm thick, this would make the Asus notebook one of the thinnest to ship with a Core i9 processor. No other changes have been made to the chassis including the 8 to 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, FHD or 4K UHD touchscreen, glass trackpad, 1.5 mm keyboard keys, and selection of ports. Prices and availability are not yet known.

This should be redesigned so you could actually upgrade your own RAM. But I know ASUS won't do that
This will be throttle city. Unless they overhaul their abysmal thermal solution. Only time will tell.
Too many other things wrong with this laptop. Thermals, plastic structure, flimsy lid and high price are my biggest issues with this thing.
Knowing Asus track record, this won't do well.
Any news on 8th gen refresh of Ideapad 720s-15? Although it managed to cool 1050 Ti Max-Q and introduce unique features like 2 NVMe SSDs, this laptop was vastly overshadowed by the XPS 15 and Zenbook Pro due to late release combined with nonexistent marketing on Lenovo's part.
Lenovo and HP will need to step up their game if they really want my money.
Why do these ultrabooks (this and the upcoming XPS i.e.) which are known for their thermal throttling are refreshed to i9's, while somewhat more serious gaming stuff like the new zephyrus or gl503 only get the i7? not even an option for i9.
Micro SD. WTF Asus. When majority of cameras uses SD and photographers/videographers is one of main buyers of this laptop, you put SD in?
