Title: Quadruple MSRP wanted for GeForce RTX 3090 on eBay while US$16,000 secures an Ampere-based mining rig with six GPUs

An Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition board has been listed on eBay for more than four times its MSRP of US$1,499. In what could be perceived as another insult to gamers hunting for an Ampere card at close to MSRP, a used mining rig featuring six RTX 30-series cards has been listed for the princely sum of US$16,000.

Nvidia and AMD need to implement a system to keep track of every serial number for sold cards, and lock every new card to the buyer for 6 months so they cannot be purchased and instantly resold for a markup! If the buyer tries to resell it within 6 months, the card should fail to operate in a different system, and to stop buyers from just not installing the card before reselling it, it should be required to be installed and registered in a system within 3 days of delivery or it gets locked.

Well that would be illegal to do in most countries, they'd get their asses sued off

They could do a kernel level driver that would recognize and limits the speed when doing bitcoin mining. They could come out with a GPU specifically for bitcoin mining only and charge a MSRP $16,000 for them.

Nvidia has already taken both those actions except to a more reasonable level. Check out Pueget Systems, last time I checked they had reasonably priced GeF3000 options but if course with a system.

Honestly, if someone wanted to buy my 3090fe for 6k I'd happily sell it and wait until things go back down!

What they should do is just stop being weenies and buy a card for what it's worth. And if the card is worth four times as much based on supply and demand, then that's how much the card is worth.

You don't have to buy a 3090 for 6k. Go on eBay and buy one for $2500. Honestly, I haven't seen a card (3090) sold for 6k. Unless it's a RTX A5000. And stop blaming the miners for the HIGH PRICES on GPUs. Why gamers won't start mining as well to help them pay for their gaming PC. So it's ok to spend 5k on custom water cooled PC, but it's not ok to buy a GPU for $2500. Hmm...

Just buy a prebuilt or custom built and either keep or sell the stuff you don't want at this rate. I've seen so prebuilts with a 3080 sub 2000.
