Title: GPD Win Max 2021 handheld gaming laptop now available for preorder with surprising Intel Core i7-1195G7 upgrade and lower price
Post by: Redaktion on July 29, 2021, 21:07:29
Initially supposed to launch with i7-1165G7 and i7-1185G7 processor options, the GPD Win Max 2021 handheld gaming laptop is now up for pre-order only with a surprising i7-1195G7 upgrade that is offered for the same price as the AMD Ryzen 7 4800U variant. Preordering now can further lower the price to only $999.

"Lowering the price on the Intel model is indeed a pleasant surprise, but then again, we are not sure why the AMD model still has the same price."

Probably because the AMD APUs cost them more to acquire? I mean, in the first place the supply situation might explain why they're using Renoir instead of Cezanne...

"... but keep in mind that it [Steam Deck] will only be available in around 1 year from now."

I tried to do the math and couldn't make December 2021 (first batch) come out to around one year from now. I never was very good with numbers though.

The entire initial batch was reserved in only a few minutes. If you preorder right now, official site says you need to wait until at least Q2 2022.

I pre-ordered a couple of weeks back and my Steam Deck's ETA is Q1 2022, but yeah, looks like it's Q2 for anyone from now onwards. It'll be interesting to see if they meet, exceed, or miss those deadlines.

I'm happy to wait for something that will likely have measurably better peak gaming performance, better perf/watt, and far superior perf/$ than the Win Max. If I really need a keyboard then I'm probably using it somewhere where I can put an external one down on a surface nearby.
