Title: Lenovo ThinkPad A285 (Ryzen 5 Pro, Vega 8, FHD) Laptop Review
Post by: Redaktion on January 06, 2019, 11:29:20
The new design now accommodates an AMD system and is called A285 within the ThinkPad A-series. We check how the 12-inch AMD-powered device can compete with the Intel-based competition.

This is the first review I've seen that claims the A285 has Thunderbolt 3 support. This is not a claim made by Lenovo themselves and it would be unusual as despite the opening up of the TB3 standard there are no AMD systems that support it as far as I know.

Would you mind checking the A285 supports TB3?

I was shocked to see it in the spec list as well seeing that it would have to be licensed from Intel IIRC. But the inclusion of DisplayPort support from the USB-C side gives hope. I am still not aware of any AMD systems with TB3 support. My guess is this is a cut and paste error from a previous review, would be nice if this was incorrect though. This would definitely be one of the cheapest devices I've ever seen with TB3 support. I have many doubts that at this price it would include TB3.

Hi, yes we made a mistake. The A285 does not support Thunderbolt 3. We added the corresponding section and also changed the pros/cons. The connectivity sub-rating is also lower as a result.

Sorry for the confusion.

ok, silent is good, very good. but 390 cinebench? it's not just "we've set your device to minimal noise", it's a lie. I have a suggestion for manufacturers: write the noise level, performance and brightness on the box. this should be passport data, not detected during testing. because the same things can differ in 50-100%, and this is a direct deception of buyers.

Would've been great if they stopped soldering the RAM...

Does this product support upgrading ram?
I need an equipment with support for 32GB Ram.
Thank you!

@FABIO PRATES ROCHA
Sadly, no. Thinkpads are moving away from consumer-friendly features that used to define them.
I recommend looking into HP EliteBook 800 series.
