PlayStation US has announced that direct pre-order registration for the PS5 console is now open. To register, fans will need a PlayStation Network ID. However, the process is a lottery as registering for direct pre-orders does not guarantee selection for the opportunity to actually reserve a PlayStation 5.

What the heck? Clown world.
This is definitely not the way to do it. A much better way would be to set the account eligibility criteria beforehand and then just unlock the preorder page to the qualifying accounts. As time moves along just update the criteria, rinse and repeat.
I hope Microsoft does this directly through their store app in the console(s), and mock Sony to the infinity for this blunder.
