Title: Asus TUF A15 with AMD Renoir and Nvidia Graphics in Review
Post by: Redaktion on June 11, 2020, 21:24:13
With its latest TUF gaming laptops, Asus relies on AMD's brand-new Renoir SoC. A closer look at the performance results shows that combined with the Nvidia GPU, this is a powerful gaming machine. In the following article we will determine whether our in-depth review of the Asus TUF A15 FA506 confirms this.

Strange I couldn't found this review link in the homepage, is something wrong?

Anyways, screen color is lackluster and response time is slower than advertised. Shame there's still no tutorial to replace the screen. So either go away from Asus or wait (again) for Ryzen 5000 if you want a good screen I guess

Has anyone else had issues with the Type-C port on this unit? I'm currently unable to get my Type-C to HDMI or DP adapters to work.

Personally, I'm in a process of trying to find something that actually works under Linux, to attach second external monitor. On Windows 10 I had no problems with using Baseus usb-c to hdmi cable (the one without power delivery). On Linux I shall be able to use usb-c to displayport cable, but ie Unitek cable (V400A) doesn't work neither on Windows nor Linux.
The specifications says about DP 1.4 support, but I have no idea whether it's the right direction to look for cable. From my first search there seems to be at least Club 3D manufacturing that kind of cable..

The story unfolds and apparently bad reviews for this device were threatened with legal actions.

Not sure if I can trust this site's rating system anymore. The Dell SE is noticeably worse but is #1? SMH

Actually, there is a tutorial and I followed it. I cannot post the link, since I am a new user, but search for "Laptop screen replacement / How to replace laptop screen Asus TUF A15 FA506IV - Screen Upgrade" on youtube.  I replaced the original screen on my TUF A15 with the same display like that guy, which is a BOE NV156FHM-N4K (look it up on Panelook). I have to say the difference is quite visible, both in terms of colors and brightness, and also in response time

I do have other questions regarding the laptop. I noticed that the integrated graphics runs on PCI-E 16x, whilst the 1660Ti that I have runs on a PCI-E 8x lane. Is there any way I could switch this around?

The model that I bought: Ryzen 7 4800H, 16Gb Ram, 1660Ti, 512GB SSD, 48 WHr battery, Bonfire black. It cost 950 EUR inn Romania, and I paid another 170 EUR for the new display, which leads to a total of 1120 EUR -same laptop, better display.
