Title: Apple's first 5G iPhone may end up even more delayed than currently thought
Post by: Redaktion on March 07, 2019, 15:32:36
Bloomberg's most recent report on Apple and its next-generation modem woes suggest that the company is in even more trouble than previously imagined. Its choices for 5G hardware in future iPhones are apparently limited and come with compromises. Therefore, it JUST may skip this feature in 2020 as well as 2019.

mmWave...? How many base stations would they need for that? Aren't these short ranged with very questionable signal coverage (especially indoors) from lack of diffraction?

5g is a solution looking for a problem.  Like 8k tvs or the currently massively fragmented hdr standard, 5g has many technical issues that make it hard to consider a selling point for most people.

Even if I lived in NYC where the technology's short range would be less of a downside, I'd never consider it a selling point given most carriers still have ridiculous data caps.  Yay, I can use all of my 10gb of data a few seconds faster!  Useless crap like 5g is why people dont upgrade their phones as much anymore.  Its not in any way compelling.
