Title: Apple shrinks and Huawei inches closer to ruin in global smartphone market share for the first quarter of 2021
Post by: Redaktion on May 02, 2021, 13:17:02
Research firm Counterpoint has published a report about global smartphone market share by quarter, including the first quarter of 2021. Apple has shrunk a little but still remains strong and Samsung looks solid as ever. However, Huawei's situation seems perilous as the Chinese OEM has slipped from 20% share to just 4% in under a year.

I think they're betting big, that the sanctions will be lifted soon, that's why they're not transitioning en masse to Qualcomm, no idea if they'll win or lose that bet though. Anyhow Huawei will remain a significant threat for at least another decade, as long as the CCP isn't toppled before that, because the subsidies and collusions will never stop.

Cheers! I'll drink to that.
Yeah, keep drinking to that until Uncle Sam will leave us only with the expensive iPhones and no affordable alternative. Who cares about competition and innovation, if you can just sanction the whole world?

Trump really showed China what a paper dragon they are. There was nothing they could do to retaliate. They just accepted the Huawei humiliation.

As long as Xiaomi and BBK don't attempt to sell to Iran against the ban, or transmit data on global variants to opaque servers in China Mainland etc. etc. I think they're safe.

While I'd like to believe that, I don't think this is over.
