Huawei has released another nova 8 series smartphone, its fifth to date. The nova 8i is certainly a mid-range smartphone, but it features the looks of a former Huawei flagship series.

Here in Malaysia, last year's nova 7i with Kirin 810 chipset and 8GB RAM/128GB storage configuration now cost MYR 899 ($215). Heck, even a Nokia 5.4 with the same Snapdragon 662 chipset cost MYR 699 ($167), which is about half the price of this phone and it has Google Mobile Services. Couple with the lack of microSD card expansion and FM Radio support, I really don't see any reason to buy this phone at all.
