Title: Intel Core i7-8550U specs and early benchmarks
Post by: Redaktion on August 18, 2017, 16:47:17
The i7-8550U ultra-low voltage CPU wipes the floor with the previous generation i5-6300HQ and i7-7500U, but is a bit behind the i5-7300HQ.

Finally small laptops + eGPU will be a viable option. Maybe even the way to go from now on.

I agree! One of these in a properly cooled ultrabook form factor + a thunderbolt 3 port (for eGPU) is an interesting option for students, travelers, mobile business people, freelancers etc.

Exactly what I (a student) am waiting for! I currently use a laptop with a dedicated GPU for whenever I hack at some Adobe software or light gaming. Of course, this usually means adding some weight to the laptop for cooling. But, I'm always on the lookout for efficient and effective ultrabooks and unfortunately the consensus for that is usually they don't provide enough power when I would need it.

It's not Coffee Lake. It's Kaby Lake Refresh.
