Title: The Google Pixel 5 could finally give fans what they've always wanted
Post by: Redaktion on August 22, 2020, 10:26:14
While it has its selling points, Google's Pixel series is notorious for one thing: tiny batteries, with the Pixel 4 even offering laughable 2800 mAh unit. It appears things are going to change with the Pixel 5, however, and that should make the phone even more attractive when it's launched in October.

A 765G is a hard sell anyhow at the very end of its life cycle, harder in the shadow of D1000L.

The only thing the 7-series absolutely misses over the 8-series is Bluetooth 5.1 with its directional ability, and 8k video. Missing directional Bluetooth seems like a big loss for an innovation oriented flagship in a time of closing the boundaries between virtual and real, but the rest of the features are about performance, where for most uses the 7-series is more than adequate.

Perhaps, but there was always zero chance of Google using a MediaTek chipset. And the 765G is as good as it gets outside the SD 800-series right now.

Perhaps it's more a matter of perspective, but buying a flagship at a flagship price(which, gets redefined every year) that can't even outperform a 3 year old flagship with a lower street price is a clear no for me. If that was "more than adequate", why even "upgrade"? Also, whether it's "more than adequate" varies with the apps it's required to run, which differs.

...Is there supposed to be a reason for that? Google's hardware has managed to excel at nothing, their only selling point is their software, and MTK at this point would be a solid upgrade, not a compromise as it once was.

Yeah, because 3080 is sooooo much bigger than 2800.

The difference is literally just 10%.

I guess that math isn't the author's strong suit.

Actually, the Pixel 5 will have a 4000 mAh battery. I'm not sure where the figure you quoted is coming from.

I guess that reading isn't your strong suit?

The article includes this quote "Pixel 5's battery capacity will be considerably larger than the Pixel 4 [...] the rumor of it being 3,080 mAh is entirely false."
