Title: Galaxy Book (2021) in review: The affordable Samsung notebook for office users
Post by: Redaktion on July 07, 2021, 07:05:52
Samsung has been producing notebooks again since last year and now also places them in the cheaper price segment with the Galaxy Book (2021). The build quality and the equipment are good at first glance. However, we will clarify what is actually offered in everyday use in our review.

Looks like a nice laptop, but for the same price one can get higher spec Huawei, Honor or Xiaomi. Does this laptop offer something significant over these alternatives?

Hey,

you write the RAM runs in double-channel mode, i couldnĀ“t find an other source to confirm. I called Samsung today and asked if so and the guy told me its just 1x 8 Gb LPDDR-4x.

This means its can only run in single-channel or am I wrong?
Maybe you know it better than this guy?!

Thanks for reply when u have time!

Greetings!

Great looking laptop.

It's a shame Samsung didn't see fit to allow memory upgrades in leiu of a 2nd SSD slot. After all, you can easily replace an SSD with a bigger one. What do you do when you need more RAM?

That and a backlit keyboard. At this point, it's going up against the MacBook Airs which have 1. A backlit keyboard, 2. A better webcam, 3. A better screen and 4. Better battery life.

I'm no Apple fanboi and I need and use Windows machines everyday for work. I just wish someone would make a decent Windows laptop that can stand up to the MacBooks and not come off looking like a cheap imitation.

I just bought this laptop, and HwInfo shows the RAM as quad-channel. This would also explain the above-average integrated GPU performance. Seems like manufacturers may be finally learning their lesson in that regard: better system memory bandwidth = better iGPU performance for cheap.

Great detailed review. I can see in the images under "Maintenance options" there are 2 aluminium casings.
The larger one adjacent the battery is the SSD slots.

What about the perpendicular smalle one above the SSD slots. Is that an unadvertised RAM slot?

I believe that should be the soldered ram heat-spread aluminium sink.
