A ship powered by ABB's Dynafins is expected to be feasible by 2026. A study conducted by ABB together with Ritz Carlton revealed that the propulsion system, which is modeled on the animal kingdom, requires up to 20% less energy and, above all, runs quietly.

What is the novelty of this system compared of the voith-schneider propulsion? Fin blades shape? It is good for station keeping, tugs and minesweepers, but there is a reason why it is not extremely popular.

I wonder if the Dynafin system (due to the dynamic power vectoring) could eliminate the need for a separate stabilizing system? Perhaps with additional unit(s) strategically placed...

I would like if they could explain how this works and why it is better. The reference to the principle is known from nature is difficult to understand.
