Title: Incredibly-low Ryzen 9 7950X3D gaming power consumption appears to leave the Core i9-13900K/KS in the dust
Post by: Redaktion on February 28, 2023, 10:31:07
AMD announced the Zen 4 Ryzen 7000X3D parts at CES 2023. The processors include the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. AMD lifted the Ryzen 9 7950X3D's review embargo on February 27 and per independent reviews, the CPU is a beast in gaming. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is also reportedly miles ahead of the Core i9-13900K/KS in FPS per watt.

Every generation of AMD Ryzen has been more power efficient than Intel. Being that they're always on the Latest TSMC shrink. Intel's "E" cores are just not actually all that efficient. Technically all of AMD cores are essentially E cores

Because the 7950 and 7900x3d parks the cores that don't have access to the extra cache when a gaming workload is detected. This effectively turns it into an 8-core CPU. This tracks pretty well with the other 8-core Ryzen offerings.

E-Cores are space-efficient, not energy efficient. Intel can put 4 E-Cores in the space of 1 P-Core.

If your idea of "performance" is FPS/Watt, then you might as well just buy a Mac. Ryzens also use a Chiplet vs Intels Monolithic Die, albeit it a hybrid. Intel is actually supposed to surpass TSMC in shrink by 2026. Regardless, they're still great gaming/enthusiast CPUs, but you gotta remember-they just released them. It's been blow for blow (except for 13th Gen kicking the snot outta Zen 4) between the two since Alder Lake, but they're also staggered enough so that it's back and forth. Don't know what this is doing on a notebook/laptop website though lol
