Title: Lenovo Yoga 720-15IKB (7700HQ, FHD, GTX 1050) Laptop Review
Post by: Redaktion on June 20, 2017, 08:15:06
Convertible Powerhouse. The Lenovo Yoga line has long been the leader in the 2-in-1 notebook market. With the redesigned Yoga 720, the Chinese manufacturer looks to expand that dominance. Can the 15-inch model be flexible enough for consumers, or will it snap under pressure?

Well, all 15" convertibles share this "cons" list and have many more cons of their own. This laptop is excellent for the price its asking. It pushes a very interesting approach, and I like that.

Again no Thunderbolt 3 PCIe lane analysis for people who want to connect high speed SSDs, capture cards or external graphics, slightly disappointed here notebookcheck.

For those curious other sources say it's connected with two 3.0 lanes.

So 1350MB/s max for SSDs, no 4k 4:4:4 for capture cards and ~10% less performance for external graphics.

Would repasting/undervolting be recommended? Please review the 4k version as well!

Really good, useful review.

I didn't think to check what display output ports to expect, I just assumed all laptops at this price bracket would come with a HDMI socket.  Apparently not.

And (as a web developer) I'm soooo sick of keyboards which don't have a double-height Enter key.   Here in Switzerland, it means the other keys (particularly square/curly brackets) end up positioned in unexpected places, causing countless typing mistakes.

Btw, after reading this review, I decided against buying this laptop, even though the 15.6" / i7-7700HQ / 8Gb / 512Gb model is on offer in Switzerland for a ridiculously cheap 1299 CHF ($1340 USD)

It's a cracking price, but that lack of built-in HDMI and double-height Enter swung it for me.

I hope Levono is taking note...

So thank you !

Have used the top specs Yoga 720 15" for about 2 weeks and are generally very happy about the laptop. The wifi is a big exception though. It is super slow, much slower than my 4 year old x1 Carbon which didn't have AC wifi. Download of any file, even a rather small one is really painful.

Strange thing with the versions of this laptop.

I got a week ago the highest possible config in Poland. It was available only at one retailer. I checked the possibilities on Lenovo US site and mine is not there. We cannot get 4k screen in Poland but I got instead:
- the 4GB version of GF1050
- Lenovo Active Pen 2 in box
But also:
- worse screen comparing to the review (lower gamma, lower contrast) - BOE CQ NV156FHM-N61
- some glitches in case fitting but nothing to give the device back

Is it possible to maybe get a color profile for my version of display?

After all this is a great device! Everything works instantly. Although the keyboard shuts itself after awhile when shuting down the computer.

That's a surprise and a half. Where did you get your model from?

I got my device from x-kom.pl
Only they had the 4gb version of the gf1050. The pen in box was a real surprise for me. I am not sure but it may be available only in the most expensive config. If the screen could go brighter at about 15% this would be the best thing ever. I would love to get the calibration too.

One thing that annoys me is that the usb-c/thunderbolt is on the right side as my hub with cables is in the place I use my mouse. Also the HDMI/vga/Ethernet hubs are expensive!

Thanks, this review helped me choose this laptop.  Bestbuy in the US is currently discounting the i7 8GB model to $899 (no NVIDIA card).  I will buy one add'l 8GB DIMM to bring it to 16.

Unlike the review, the latest series with Chi Mei panels seem to suffer from a lot of problems, including but not limited to permanent black lines on upper right corner, bleeding, flickering and excessive green levels. I had to return this unit after suffering from backlight bleeding and flickering. The unit was equipped with a Chi Mei N156HCE-EN1. Incredibly frustrating, because I would totally keep it otherwise.

I wonder when Notebookcheck will test 730-15 and what will come out from the display tests!

Hey! How do I find out which panel the laptop uses? I'm thinking about buying it second hand since they're reasonably priced now, but I have a photosensitive epilepsy and can't risk looking at a flickering screen for 10 hours a day.

My Yoga 720-151KB refuses to charge while in active use mode. Only charges while off or in sleep mode which prevents me from using screen extender from my work laptop because it can only be discovered thru wireless by my other Lenovo Flex-5 while "plugged in" (even though it is plugged in). Thoughts or advice?

I have a problem with the touch screen where the touch pen or touch screen does not work
What are the reasons?
